RES current activities

Spanish Supercomputing Network (RES)

RES is the Spanish Supercomuting Network (Red Española de Supercomputación). Barcelona Supercomputing Center is the coordinator of the RES, which includes a total of eight supercomputers distributed in Spain in different institutions/universities:

  • Barcelona Supercomputing Center
  • CeSViMa, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, UPM
  • Instituto Astrofísico de Canarias, IAC
  • Universidad de Málaga
  • Universidad de Santander
  • Universidad de Valencia
  • Universidad de Zaragoza
  • ITC (Instituto Tecnológico de Canarias)

The total number of processors in the Spanish Supercomputing Network is 15170 PowerPC 970, with a Peak Performance of 138,5 TFlops.

Access Committee

This computing power is available to public reserarch, based on activity calls. Activity call is continuously open and the evaluation is every three months. The duration for activities is limited to 4 months. Larger activities should divide the work in 4 months period.

The Access Committee is the only that evaluates the received activities. It is constituted by four members:

  • a BSC-CNS external manager with wide experience in Innovation Management,
  • an ANEP representative,
  • a Supercomputing expert, external to BSC-CNS
  • a Supercomputing expert, member of BSC-CNS.

The Access Committee is advised by a Experts Panel composed by prestigious Spanish scientists, external to BSC-CNS. This Experts Panel is divided into four groups, according to the established classification from the Spanish Foundation of Science and Technology (FECYT – Fundación Española de Ciencia y Tecnología):

The Experts Panel is composed by scientists of outstanding career and experience in the management of research projects, mainly managers of National Programs or of the ANEP.
