The Servicio de Certificados de RedIRIS (SCS) offers multiple types of digital certificates (Servers, Personal ...) to the academic and research institutions affiliated to RedIRIS. These certificates are provided by Comodo CA Limited, one of the largest Certification Authorities worldwide.

The SCS Personal Certificate is available for identifying individual users and securing e-mail communications. Certificates may only be used in accordance with their intended purpose and in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. Certificates may not be used to complete or assist in performing any transaction that is prohibited by law.

Certificates must not be used for any application requiring fail-safe performance systems such as the operation of nuclear power facilities, air traffic control systems, weapon control systems, or any other system where a failure of the system could cause any form of damage.

Operations Scheme

Request a user certificate

Go to “ISC Personal Certificate Interface” (http://www.rediris.es/scs/isc/personal) using web browser (i.e: Mozilla Firefox). You must authenticate against SIR using the BSC-CNS Idp before continuing. Select BSC-CNS and click on “Aceptar” button.

Enter your BSC credentials and click on “Iniciar Sesión” button.

After that you were authenticated, the “ISC Personal Certificate Interface” shows your own SIR attributes. Click on “Certificados Personales -> Solicitar Certificado” (left frame) to request a new certificate.

Fill in the form and submit the data (click on “Enviar” button). The data submitted will be used to create a certificate signing request (CSR) which will be sent to the Certificate Authority (CA) to be signed signed and returned as a certificate. We recommend you to choose 3 years for the lifetime certificate and high grade for key length.

Finally, your CSR has been sent to COMODO.

Get the signed certificate

The signed certificate must be retrieved from the same web browser (in the same computer) used to issue the certificate request (CSR). This is important because the web browser needs to link the certificate back to the CSR and private keys, and this can be done in the browser where the CSR was generated only.

The process to generate the signed certificate depends completly on Comodo CA Limited. We suggest you check if the certificate is generated one hour after has been requested.

Go to http://www.rediris.es/scs/isc/personal/?cmd=download using web browser (i.e: Mozilla Firefox). You must authenticate against SIR using the BSC-CNS Idp before continuing. Select BSC-CNS and click on “Aceptar” button.

Enter your BSC credentials and click on “Iniciar Sesión” button.

After that you were authenticated, the “ISC Personal Certificate Interface” shows your certificate. Click on “Descargar” button to download your own certificate.
