Director's welcome

Welcome to the Barcelona Supercomputing Center - The National Supercomputing Center, born as an initiative of the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science (Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia), the Catalan Government (Generalitat de Catalunya) and the Technical University of Catalonia (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya).

The BSC-CNS is at the service of the International Scientific Community and Industry that need High Performance Computing resources. Our multidisciplinary research team and the 10240 processor MareNostrum supercomputer, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, makes BSC-CNS a worldwide Center of Excellence in e-Science.

We actively participate in the main HPC projects in Europe, being connected to the main Supercomputing Centers. Our mobility programs allow scientists worldwide to visit the BSC-CNS in order to cooperate in cutting-edge research projects.

Our own research is focused in three main fields: Computational Sciences (Deep Computing and Computer Architecture), Life Sciences and Earth Sciences. World renowned scientists are members of all our research groups. We work in basic as well as in applied research with companies such as IBM, Microsoft, Intel, Sun, Airbus or Desafío Español America's Cup 2007.

From now on, my team and I are happy to collaborate on Grand Challenge projects in any scientific area where supercomputing can help to obtain new research results and to contribute to foster the scientific progress.
